North Carolina-America Program?
• A division of the Ms. Wheelchair America program, Ms. Wheelchair NC-America is a disability advocacy program which seeks to select the most articulate and accomplished spokeswoman to represent persons with disabilities in the state of North Carolina and at the National level.
• This program is a symbol of the dignity and productiveness of persons with disabilities.
• Ms. Wheelchair NC-America assumes responsibility for the ongoing effort to eliminate stereotypical and physical barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from assuming their right place in society.
• The selected candidate must communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of the disabled community to the general public, business community and the government.
What are the Responsibilities of
Ms. Wheelchair America?
• Promoting awareness of the need to eliminate architectural and attitudinal barriers.
• Informing the able-bodied public of the achievements of people with disabilities across the nation.
• Promoting Ms. Wheelchair America by assisting in the establishment of programs in all 50 states.
What is the Ms. Wheelchair
America Program?
• The mission of the Ms. Wheelchair America Program, Inc. is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement who utilize wheelchairs to successfully educate and advocate for individuals with disabilities.
• Unlike traditional pageants, the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant is in no way a beauty contest. It is instead a competition to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for the millions of disabled Americans.
• The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, business community and the legislature.
• Each year Ms. Wheelchair America has had the opportunity to travel, visiting advocacy groups, making public appearances and conducting radio, print, and TV interviews in the fulfillment of her responsibilities.
